About Us

Our Sixth Form has an established reputation and consistently achieves excellent level three results. We also aim to develop a wider range of skills so that students are prepared to take the next step in life, whether it be Higher Education, apprenticeships, employment with training or Post 18 School Leaver Schemes.

Our Sixth Form has been consistently recognised by Ofsted as a strength of the school where students benefit from a well considered programme to support their wider personal development. In the Sixth Form teachers are skilled at checking how well students are learning. They deliver subject curriculums that are aspirational and meet the needs of students. It was noted that students in the Sixth form enjoy acting as leaders and mentors, readily taking on roles as representatives of the School Council, the Eco Club, and the Pride Network ,which celebrates diversity and equality.

Our stand alone Sixth Form Centre opened in September 2012 and provides excellent facilities for our students.

OUR VISION STATEMENT

Our Sixth Form welcomes students who are committed to learning and achievement and who will make a positive contribution to the life of our school, taking advantage of the opportunities offered by an 11-19 community and benefiting from these.

We believe the Sixth Form experience should be enjoyable and stimulating. Our programmes also provide students with the skills and qualifications needed to make ambitious, well informed choices in preparation for the next step of their future lives.

WE PROVIDE:

High Quality Tuition. Our excellent results enable our students to access the most aspirational of pathways available at universities, through apprenticeship providers and in Post 18 employment.

Extensive Curriculum Choice. We offer a wide range of level three courses  and students are also given the opportunity to complete the Extended Project Qualification and the Core Maths Qualification.

Careful Charting of Each Student’s Progress. Parents are sent assessment reports at regular intervals throughout both Year 12 and Year 13 and parents and students are invited to attend Consultation Evenings with subject tutors to discuss every individual student’s progress. Detailed reports are issued in the year for both Year 12 and 13.

Advice, Guidance and Support.

Students benefit from our extensive support structure which ensures we know each of our learners as individuals. Staff are keen to respond to each learners needs to help them develop their skills to become independent learners.

We work in partnership with parents and carers and recognise the importance of a collaborative approach in ensuring that students are successful and can make informed choices about their future lives.

Access to Careers and Higher Education Information.

Each student is supported to explore a range of Post 18 options with visits to Universities, Higher Education and Apprenticeships Fairs and the opportunity to meet recent Alumni in a range of settings. These regular interactions equip our students with current knowledge of the requirements of competitive applications.

Our Sixth Form Development Day programme focuses on supporting students' preparedness for making applications to their chosen next step, whether that may be university, apprenticeships or employment. Our Employ Group programme helps students develop skills to confidently connect with prospective employers and to stand out when making applications. Our UCAS programme guides our students through the UCAS application process and ensures they are able to make successful applications to aspirational, competitive courses. Our Early Entry Programme for students applying to Oxford and Cambridge Universities or for Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary courses provides careful support at each stage of their application journey.

Social and Cultural Activities.

The Aspire Programme is open to all students and provides challenge and stretch through a range of super-curricular activities including, but not limited to:

  • Sixth Form Global Citizenship Conference
  • Extended Project Qualification
  • Oxbridge Guest Speakers
  • University lead Personal Statement Workshops
  • University lead Interview Preparation Workshops
  • Employer lead CV Review Workshops
  • Head Student and Prefects programme
  • Debate Society

One of the strengths of the Sixth Form is the opportunity it provides for our students to involve themselves in a wide range of School and House activities which broadens their education beyond their studies.

In addition to academic courses, we offer students an Enrichment Programme which provides opportunities to develop valuable personal and social skills and to work with others through extra-curricular activities and community service.
