Transition

We're delighted to welcome you to Poynton High School!

Our transition programme is extremely important to us to aid the smooth changeover from Primary to Secondary School. The process starts in Year 5 - building foundations and relationships so that when students start they immediately feel part of our community.

We have built a programme for transition which is unique and effective, allowing students to visit the high school and meet key people who will be working alongside them.

During the transition year, we visit our primary schools regularly so we get to know the students and in turn they can ask any questions they may have. Students undertake a wide-ranging programme of activities such as MFL and technology master classes, art exhibition, maths challenges, sports day, dance workshop, history investigation, science week, poetry competitions and microbit sessions. All of our activities are aimed at supporting our young people and to help them feel a part of our school.

There will be the opportunity to attend a number of taster sessions, including attending a morning at high school to experience routines; a timetable, break in the canteen, lessons and movement from one room to the next. Alongside the taster mornings we offer a welfare induction morning, SEND induction morning, EHCP induction morning and finally a whole year group induction day. These are extremely popular and help to reduce any fears or worries our young people may have.

After the May half term students attend a residential at the Menai Centre in Conwy, this is a great way for us to get to know each other and for them to meet potential new classmates. It is challenging but extremely rewarding, with students getting the opportunity to meet other students outside of the classroom.

We are excited to get to know you and your child over the coming months as we prepare for their start at Poynton High School in September.
