At Poynton High School, our Charter is brought to life through our daily expectations of Respect, Responsibility and Readiness. These behaviours help create a calm, safe and respectful environment where every student has the right to learn and every teacher has the right to teach.

Students are expected to:

• Show respect for everyone.
• Take responsibility for their choices.
• Arrive on time, equipped and ready to learn.
• Follow staff instructions first time.
• Contribute positively to lessons and school life.
• Take pride in their school and their conduct.

Where behaviour falls below expectations, staff use a consistent system of reminders, warnings and consequences to help students reflect on their choices and return to positive learning behaviours quickly.

We believe that positive behaviour, effort and achievement should be recognised and celebrated every day.

Students earn House Points for demonstrating Respect, Responsibility and Readiness within lessons, around the school site and through extra-curricular activities.

We all have the right to learn and teach in a calm, safe and respectful environment.

Students are expected to:

• Start work promptly.
• Follow instructions first time.
• Stay focused on learning.
• Ask for help when needed.
• Show respect to staff and fellow students.
• Allow others to learn without disruption.

Positive choices are recognised through House Points and rewards. Staff support students through clear routines, high expectations and positive relationships.

Where expectations are not met, staff use a consistent stepped approach to help students reflect, reset and return to successful learning.

Our expectations apply throughout the entire school day.

Students are expected to demonstrate Respect, Responsibility and Readiness during social times, break, lunch, lesson changeovers and whilst representing the school in the wider community.

Students should:

• Follow staff instructions first time.
• Move sensibly around the school site.
• Respect the school environment.
• Treat others with courtesy and kindness.
• Attend lessons promptly.
• Use facilities appropriately.
• Take responsibility for their behaviour and choices.

Failure to follow reasonable staff instructions, truancy, refusal to comply with expectations or disrespectful behaviour may result in consequences in line with the school's behaviour procedures.

Being prepared for learning is an important part of demonstrating Readiness.

Uniform

Students are expected to wear full and correct school uniform at all times. Uniform expectations help create a sense of pride, belonging and readiness for learning.

Uniform concerns will be recorded and monitored. Refusal to comply with a reasonable request regarding uniform may result in a C3 consequence. Two or more uniform infringements in a day may result in a C3 detention.

Equipment

Students should arrive fully equipped for every lesson. Essential equipment may include pens, pencils, rulers, calculators, exercise books and any subject-specific resources required for learning.

Equipment concerns are recorded and monitored. Two or more equipment infringements in a day may result in a C3 detention.

PE Kit

Students are expected to arrive at PE lessons with the correct PE kit and be ready to participate fully.

PE kit concerns are treated as readiness issues and are recorded in the same way as other equipment concerns.

• Two PE kit issues will result in a C3 detention.
• Refusal to wear PE kit will result in a C3 sanction.
• Refusal to follow a reasonable instruction regarding PE kit will result in a C3 sanction.
• Persistent concerns will be addressed through parental contact and pastoral support.

We are proud to be a phone-free school.

Our phone-free approach helps students:

• Focus on learning.
• Build positive friendships.
• Reduce distractions.
• Be present in school life.
• Achieve their best both academically and socially.

Students are expected to:

• Bring their phone to school safely.
• Place their phone in their phone locker pouch.
• Keep the pouch locked throughout the school day.
• Unlock the pouch when leaving school.

If a phone is seen or used during the school day, sanctions will be applied in line with the school's phone-free procedures.

Students travelling to and from school are ambassadors for Poynton High School and are expected to demonstrate the same high standards of behaviour that are expected within school.

Students should:

• Follow instructions from drivers and staff.
• Treat others with respect.
• Travel safely and responsibly.
• Look after buses and bus stops.
• Represent the school positively within the local community.

Poor behaviour on school transport may result in school sanctions and, where appropriate, further action relating to transport arrangements. By demonstrating Respect, Responsibility and Readiness on every journey, students help ensure that travel to and from school is safe and positive for everyone.
