Instrumental Tuition
Instrumental Tuition at Poynton High School
We are pleased to offer a wide range of instrumental tuition at Poynton High School, delivered by our team of highly skilled visiting music tutors. These tutors specialise in various instruments and provide expert one-to-one and in some circumstances small-group teaching.
Instrument Hire
In some cases, the school can loan instruments to students. Where this is not possible, we recommend hiring instruments through the Love Music Trust, with whom we have a strong partnership. Full details, including hire charges, can be found on their website: www.lovemusictrust.com
Student Commitment & Progression
To make the most of lessons, regular practice at home is essential. As students gain proficiency, they are encouraged to:
-
Enjoy themselves.
-
Join school ensembles such as the Choir and Concert Band.
-
Work towards graded music exams.
Achieving a Grade 6 or higher not only reflects musical excellence but also:
-
Earns UCAS points, which support university applications.
-
Counts towards Attainment 8 under the current GCSE framework.
Lesson Structure & Timetabling
Lessons are typically delivered once a week on a fortnightly rotating timetable, ensuring students do not miss the same curriculum subject each time. Students will use their lunch passes to electronically sign in and out of lessons for safe guarding purposes.
Each student will receive a yellow practice booklet to:
-
Record homework and progress, updated by both the tutor and student.
-
Provide permission to leave curriculum lessons.
-
Serve as a communication tool between parents/carers and the tutor.
We encourage students to notify their subject teachers in advance when they know they’ll miss part of a class.
Tuition Fees & Financial Support
As independent professionals, visiting tutors set their own fees and terms. Once your application is submitted, the relevant tutor will contact you directly with full details, including:
-
Lesson structure and length.
-
Cost per lesson.
-
Payment arrangements.
-
Terms and conditions.
Financial support is available for eligible students:
-
Students in receipt of Pupil Premium funding receive a 50% discount and in some cases lessons may be fully funded.
