Caring Professions in Safe Hands

The future of various caring professions seems in good hands as all of the students at Poynton High School Sixth Form that have applied for university courses in Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Science, Nursing and Midwifery have all successfully been offered places at the country’s top universities for next year.  In total, 11 students have received offers for these highly competitive courses where the rigorous selection procedure includes various interviews and personal suitability tests beyond the normal application process. These students are now sitting examinations to gain the high grades needed to successfully take up these places.

On a wider scale these students join a total of 131 students in applying for university places from Poynton High School Sixth Form this year, with 11 of these students being made unconditional offers for places starting in September.  Students have applied far and wide to universities in all parts of the British Isles, from Edinburgh to Exeter and Bangor to East Anglia.  5 students are holding offers from Oxford or Cambridge for a variety of courses beginning in September.  The Sixth form at Poynton has also been very successful this year in working with students applying for highly competitive Level 3 apprenticeship opportunities with companies such as Barclays, Hall and Pickles, Network Rail and Astrazeneca, with 8 students so far being offered these apprenticeships for September.  Director of Sixth Form, Mr Richard Hardman said, “We are very proud of all of our Year 13 students and we wish them all every success in reaching the levels of achievement in the summer results that will allow them all to take up their first choice offers of university, apprenticeships or full time employment.  All of the students that have attended interviews for the most competitive courses and apprenticeships have done particularly well in securing offers.  We congratulate all of them.”
